BATC: Photo Scavenger Hunt

I've been battling this cold all week (continuing from thanksgiving weekend!), so some of my pictures are old pictures. However, they are taken by me with my DLSR. I won't be going to class and infect you with my germs, so I'm posting it on here :) I know most won't make sense to you, but they do to me :)

Enjoy!

BATC: Products Photography

hum..... well the pictures looked better in PSE than posted here on the web. The color of the backgrounds are all wonky (I'm reading Harry Potter, so I get to say wonky). The whites are not white and the grey is not grey! Only the last one is right. My Favorite is the ballet shoes, I think it's because Jenda positioned them perfectly! Thanks Jenda!

BATC: Composition Field Trip

OH how I struggled with this field trip! I didn't even take that many pictures and as I was looking through the 20 pics that I do have, I'm thinking "boring....boring...boring!" I now see what you mean, Alexis, about interesting perspective and angles. Though it doesn't mean that I can see creatively yet. On the plus side, I sort of figured out the border thing... but there has to be a better (and by better I mean faster) way of doing this! BTW, I'm starting to love shooting in RAW and Manual, but ever since I started shooting in RAW, pics are grainier than before? Is it because of PICASA??

Settings: ISO 400, f2.8, ss 1/250

If it were spring, this shot would be SWEET,
I still love the blue window in the background though.

Settings: ISO 400, f2.8, ss 1/2000

Montague.... like Romeo and Juliet!

I remember when you were lecturing about how if the subject is on the left, the image is stronger. I always like the right! Must be because I was born in a different country!

Settings: ISO 400, f5.6, ss 1/50

The barrel was kind of blah, so I kicked it up a notch in photoshop.

BATC: Composition

I think I'm pretty much stuck in terms of composition. I can't find any new and interesting way to shoot my kids. I'm also limited by my focus points, I try to have the focus point on their eyes because I usually shoot wide open. So most poses are the same.....

This is in camera crop, I think the only rule of third is that her eyes are on the top third of the photo. (Her skin color was kind of wonky so I made it B&W)

I cropped this in PSE, I think Mr S is in the intersection...

This is my copy of the little ballerina girl, it was shot as landscape and I cropped it portrait

In camera crop again, but I did crop a little bit more in PSE to move his eyes up more.

Shot in RAW and Manual at 4 pm, in the shade with the exception of the 1st one

(I found out there is a RAW converter in PICASA, albeit sucky but better than nothing)

BATC: Models Shoot

I had a blast at the field trip today, thanks to all the models for being such great sports! I learned so much, I just wish we had more light so that we could have kept shooting for longer. So without further ado, (drum roll please!) here are my pictures!

*hint: If you want to see the BIG version of the pictures, but don't want to miss any of the lovely music that I've put in (hee hee) ... Right click on the photos and click open in new tab.

I had a tough time with the group poses and not just with the large group, but anything more than 1 person is too much for me. This is my best group photo, it's not the greatest but I didn't want to have a post without showing everyone.

I love this pose, though not loving the white wall.....

I see some sparkles! Alexis, do I need to do something about the white balance? Is it to yellow?

The BW version is nice too

She is just ADORABLE! I wish I had more space on the right so it doesn't look so choppy.

This picture isn't in focus, but it has a nice overall look to it.

Isn't this such a sweet picture?? Too bad they are not a real couple :P
(I hate that pole in the background!)

My second attempt at silhouette went better than the first at willow park.
I really like the arch way.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL THE MODELS!

BATC Lighting Assignment

Like I said last time in class, I HATE driving! (maybe I should consider another career...) So this is just outside our front door. I use the term, our, very loosely. Technically, it's my in law's front door. I am shooting north-east, I figure it's better to be somewhat prepenticular to the path of the sun, right?

7:50 AM Av MWB ISO 800 50mm f/2.8 ss 1/40

1:00 PM Manual AWB ISO 200 50mm f/11 ss 1/250

4:00 PM Manual AWB ISO 200 50mm f/11 ss 1/200

6:30 PM Manual AWB ISO 800 50mm f/5.6 ss 1/10

Out of all 4 times, I like the early morning the best, nice soft light, but the SS was slow, and I didn't have a tripod so I had to shoot wide open. I had to boost the ISO for both morning and night shots. I hate the 4 pm shot, there is that ugly big shawdow I had to crop out. I think if I had taken the late afternoon shot 30 minutes earlier, it would be a lot better. I shoudn't have left it on AWB, it looks so cool. I only adjusted a little on element but kept it blue for the experiment. This was a fun experiment! There is so much to think about for just one shot!
